Behind the Scenes at The V&A Museum, viewing their recent acquisition of Paper Peepshows from The Gestetner Collection

In preparation for an upcoming workshop at the V&A (details to come soon),
I visited the V&A's new collection of Paper Peepshows (or Tunnel Books) as they are also called.
These wonderful peepshows in the photographs below date from 1840-1860,
when these books were very popular as souvenirs or mementos to mark a special occasion.

REAL TO REEL: THE CRAFT FILM FESTIVAL

Picturehouse Central, London, 4-5 May 2016

The UK’s first film festival dedicated to crafts and making launched by the Crafts Council and Crafts magazine, is set to be among the highlights of this year’s London Craft Week.

Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival takes place on the evenings of 4 and 5 May at Picturehouse Central in London’s West End, with a carefully curated programme of different films shown each night.

Following an open call, 36 films have been selected from well over 300 submissions, covering the gamut of styles from animation to satire and from documentaries to surreal art pieces. As diverse as the films are, each looks at our relationship with materials and making in different ways.

Pinocchio selected for The Crafts Council first ever film festival 'Real to Reel'

Pinocchio animation showing at PictureHouse Central on 5th May

The Crafts Council and Crafts magazine have joined forces to launch a new film festival, taking place during London Craft Week
Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival will take place on the 4 and 5 May at Picturehouse Central
- each evening showing a different programme of films.
Craft has a very special relationship with film, and on screen, can be hypnotic, surprising and magical.  The resurgence of interest in materials and making processes has resulted in a host of beautiful and interesting new films on the topic.
Based around the theme of our ‘Material World’, the festival presents documentaries, story-led films and animation, selected from an open call for submissions. From seeing skill in action, or materials from a new angle, and celebrating the craft of film-making, Real to Reel will show an array of films that capture the wonder of craft.
